Our favourite materials for healthy environments
At Nomad Studio One we like to use natural materials that support our health and promote safe environments in which to work, live and play.
As architects and interior designers we have seen many offices and houses aging and being used. And we know how a sick environment feels like: toxic smells, low hygienics and poor ventilation amongst others…
So, choosing suppliers and materials for healthy environments is key.
Metals such as copper, brasses and bronze in taps, door handles and cabinet knobs – the places that are frequently touched. These metals have intrinsic natural antimicrobial properties to destroy a wide range of microorganisms. Not only are they hygienic, but are great accents to warm up your home.
Woods like bamboo, oak and corkstop bacteria and microorganisms from growing. We love the look of warm lighter oak woods for flooring, and think this will continue to be a big trend in home design.
Quartz is one of the hardest non-precious stones on earth, therefore countertops made from quartz are hard, stain and scratch-resistant, and the most sanitary. Quartz is already popular, and that will only increase post Coronavirus.
And the list of materials goes on and on. In the next post we will speak about coatings and how can positively affect your environment and even safe your energy bill!
